ARGENTINIAN PUBLIC TELEVISION WILL BE ABSENT ON G20 SUMMIT COVERAGE

ARGENTINIAN PUBLIC TELEVISION WILL BE ABSENT ON G20 SUMMIT COVERAGE
The labor policies of Hernán Lombardi, the man in charge of Argentina’s public media, have deepened the information blockade in our country: by his orders, we are not alowed to inform on the 2018 Buenos Aires G20 summit that takes place a few miles away from our building. The public TV station will instead broadcast the material produced by privately owned media. Not a single journalist in our news service will be working this weekend.
IT’S NOT ‘AUSTERITY’, BUT CENSORSHIP
Today, programming in the public broadcasting system of Argentina it’s outsourced to privately owned production companies, with the exception of it’s news service, whose production was cut by 50%. Workers were victims of brutal salary reduction, the working force was reduced by 20% and no salary negotiations have taken place for the past two years, in wich inflation has gone up by 65%. Futhermore, coverage capacity has been undermined by elimination of paid overtime work.
This is not new: this year, for the first time in history, Argentina’s TV Pública did not cover the Pope’s visit to neighboring countrys such as Chile and Perú. We could not inform on the finding of the ARA San Juan submarine from Mar del Plata, or on the incidents that brought posponement of the Boca-River match last weekend.
Journalists of the TV Pública news service were banned from working on the TV station web site as retaliation of our union activism against the persecution and violation of labor laws by the TV Pública authorities.
There is a sistematic plan to lay waste of  state-controlled media in Argentina and leave information and news exclusively to corporate mass media. The perpetrators are the public officials in charge: Hernán Lombardi, Miguel Pereira and Néstor Sclauzero.
That’s what  journalists and workers in TV Pública are fighting against, with our Union, the Sindicato de Prensa de Buenos Aires (SiPreBA), for the last eleven months, along with workers of state news agency Telam, and of Radio Nacional.
